For the 2nd consecutive year, Air Liquide is taking part in the Monte-Carlo eRally, a motorsport endurance race organized by the Monaco Automobile Club, in which only 100% zero-emission, battery- and hydrogen-powered electric cars are allowed to compete.

Air Liquide has developed a mobile recharging station for this kind of event, to supply the hydrogen cars competing with the fuel they need. Air Liquide’s teams will be working on the event from October 25 through 29 to supply the hydrogen and recharge cars at each stage of the race.

Around forty vehicles will leave from Fontainebleau, near Paris, France on October 25. The competitors include six hydrogen cars (3 Toyota Mirai, 1 Hyundai ix35 and 2 Kangoo ZE H2), which will reach the Principality of Monaco in the evening of October 28, following a three-stage race in Magny Cours, Onet-le- Château, and Aix-en-Provence, and a final night stage in Monaco. The 2016 edition of the Monte Carlo eRally was won by the hydrogen Toyota Mirai.

Previously reserved exclusively for battery-powered electric vehicles, hydrogen vehicles have only been allowed to compete in this rally since 2016. Used with a fuel cell, hydrogen combines with oxygen from the air to produce electricity, with water as the only by-product. These vehicles do not generate any pollution on the point of use: zero greenhouse gases emissions (carbon dioxide included), zero particles and zero noise.

Air Liquide masters the entire hydrogen supply chain, from production and storage to distribution and the development of applications for end users, thus contributing to the widespread use of hydrogen as a clean energy source, for mobility in particular.
