Lotte-Air Liquide Ener'Hy, the joint venture established in 2022 between Air Liquide Korea and LOTTE Chemical, has announced the successful start-up and official opening of its state-of-the-art high-pressure hydrogen filling center in Daesan, South Korea. Inaugurated today, the facility is now fully operational and has started providing a reliable hydrogen supply to the mobility market. The inauguration ceremony was attended by Deputy Minister Se Chang Ahn of Ministry of Climate Energy and Environment (MCEE), Deputy Mayor Soonkwang Hong of Seosan city, APAC CEO Ronnie Chalmers of Air Liquide, CEO Young-Jun Lee of LOTTE Chemical, Executive Vice President Ken Ramirez of Hyundai Motor Company, government agencies and industrial partners.
Located in Daesan industrial park, Chuncheongnam-do province, South Korea, this new hydrogen conditioning and distribution plant supplies high-pressure hydrogen to the central region including Seoul Metropolitan Area, serving as a key enabler for the supply of all types of hydrogen vehicles, focusing on heavy-duty and commercial such as buses and trucks.
The new facility that received a support from the government, is set to become Korea’s largest 450 bar hydrogen conditioning and distribution site, based on a stable supply of by-product hydrogen from LOTTE Chemical. It will produce enough hydrogen to fuel 1,100 commercial hydrogen buses or 4,200 passenger hydrogen vehicles everyday. Lotte-Air Liquide Ener’Hy will also advance logistics with the introduction of state-of-the-art high-pressure tube trailers, which significantly increase capacity and efficiency by transporting 3.5 times more hydrogen than the standard 200 bar trailers.
Using Air Liquide's proprietary technology and deep expertise in high-purity hydrogen over the value chain, this facility integrates a strict quality management system and world-class safety technology to ensure the supply of hydrogen with the highest standards.
South Korea is a frontrunner and demonstrates global leadership in the energy transition, fueled by the government’s strong commitment to expanding the hydrogen economy. To align with this vision, Lotte-Air Liquide Ener'Hy is working to lead Korea's transition to a hydrogen economy by providing hydrogen integrated solutions from by-product hydrogen purification to transportation and distribution.
Somie Kim, CEO & Representative Director of Lotte-Air Liquide Ener’Hy said, “The inauguration of our Daesan High-Pressure Hydrogen Filling Center confirms our strategic commitment to the future of sustainable energy in Korea. This facility, bolstered by stable supply and logistics innovations like the high pressure tube trailers, is now fully operational and ready to serve our customers. We are excited to provide a highly competitive, efficient, and reliable high-purity hydrogen supply, actively contributing to the acceleration of hydrogen mobility deployment and Korea's journey toward its ambitious hydrogen ecosystem goals.”
