National Hydrogen and Fuel Cell Day 2020 - Exclusive groundbreaking images of the construction of Air Liquide hydrogen plant in Nevada

While during last year’s National hydrogen and fuel cell day, Air Liquide outlined its 200 million dollars investment to build a renewable liquid hydrogen plant and logistic infrastructure in North Las Vegas, Nevada, this year the company shares exclusive drone video and photos of its construction. Images show that the earthworks and civil engineering work are well underway and progressing steadily. Air Liquide plans to complete the construction next year.

Hydrogen for the west coast...

With a capacity of nearly 30 tons of liquid hydrogen per day — an amount that can fuel 42,000 Fuel Cell Electric Vehicles (FCEVs), Air Liquide’s Nevada hydrogen plant will provide a reliable solution to the large-scale deployment of hydrogen mobility on the west coast, especially in California. The plant will serve the complete range of zero emission vehicles (ZEVs), from light duty to medium and heavy duty, such as cars, buses, forklifts and heavy duty trucks.

... and the Northeast

Air Liquide is also poised to play a major role in the Northeast’s push toward sustainability by completing the installation of a 20-megawatt Proton Exchange Membrane (PEM) electrolyzer at its existing hydrogen production facility in Becancour, Quebec, becoming, by year-end, the world’s largest PEM electrolyzer in operation. The facility uses hydro-electricity — a renewable power — to produce green hydrogen for the Northeast mobility and industry markets.

Hydrogen offers a number of benefits for clean transportation. Used in a fuel cell, it combines with the oxygen in the air to produce electricity, with water as the only byproduct. It does not generate any pollution at its point of use: zero greenhouse gases, zero particles and zero noise. It takes less than five minutes to recharge hydrogen-powered ​electric ​vehicles ​for ​a ​driving ​range ​of ​around 500 ​kilometers.
