Eco-innovative start-up ATAWEY joins forces with AIR LIQUIDE and ARELIS in order to launch THEMIS: a 100% renewable, pioneering autonomous power generation project.

This project is supported by ADEME and is organised within the framework of the TITEC call for projects dedicated to hydrogen and fuel cell technologies.

THEMIS is an ambitious project concerning energy autonomy systems, designed for television and telecommunication broadcasts from remote sites, intended to demonstrate the performances of the innovations developed by ATAWEY in real conditions. THEMIS is a significantly sized project which will allow sites that are not connected to the electrical grid to be completely energy autonomous (8MWh/year), without the use of fossil fuels and with no CO2 emissions, thanks to the long-term, high capacity storage of renewable energies (solar and wind) produced during periods of overproduction. Its objective is to prepare all the factors that will allow the successful launch of the product in 2015.

A collaborative project supported by renowned market players

Initiated and coordinated by ATAWEY and approved by the energy cluster TENERRDIS, the THEMIS project is financed by both ADEME and the RHONE-ALPES REGION. It is also supported by AIR LIQUIDE advanced Business & Technologies, which will provide its expertise in the field of the safety of industrial gases as well the technological platform for carrying out experiments on its test centre located at the heart of its Sassenage site in the Isère department. As an industrial partner, ARELIS will provide its knowledge of technical and economic constraints as a transmission specialist, as well as its experience in energy conversion on isolated sites and in system engineering, to approve the project's economic viability.

Hydrogen energy at the heart of the energy transition

The THEMIS project is involved in discussions surrounding the energy transition and follows a recent statement by French Industrial Minister, Arnaud Montebourg, calling for France to become “a European leader of the hydrogen industry.” The three industrial partners said:

“We are proud to announce the launch of THEMIS, whose projected launch is in September or October of 2014. By combining our talents and strengths, we are preparing the success of future products together. This collaborative process between a start-up, industrial groups and institutional organisations is testament to the ambition to reinforce the hydrogen industry, which provides solutions for today's and tomorrow’s energy issues.”
