Following five days of competition, the Toyota Mirai driven by Artur Prusak and his co-pilot Thierry Benchetrit won the Monte-Carlo e-Rally. A world first for a fuel cell electric car in an official FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile) event. By completing the 1,000 km race from Fontainebleau to Monaco, the Toyota Mirai has illustrated the reliability and viability of fuel cell electric cars on long trips.

Air Liquide operated a mobile charging station for the duration of the rally, supplying hydrogen to all the fuel cell electric vehicles competing: three Kangoo ZE-Hydrogens and three Toyota Mirais. This rally, which until now was reserved for competitors driving battery electric vehicles, is now open to 100% non-polluting vehicles that generate no CO2 emissions. So for the first time since its creation in 1995, fuel cell electric vehicles were allowed to compete in the E-Rally.

The missing link of the energy transition, hydrogen already allows us to develop alternative mobility solutions for "carbon-free" transportation. The technologies for its production and use are mature, and this carbon-free molecule can facilitate the switch to a "clean" world.
